Anathema

Synopsis

Ataric has many legends. The many generations of the enduring planet offer tales of necromancy, of war, of races long since vanished, and people so powerful that only referring to them as “gods” serves to do them justice. However, what the newest generation fails to perceive is that these legends were once truths. And Ataric always reaches the brink before its inhabitants choose to believe.

At this time, the legends speak of a being known as the Cursed One. Claimed by the gods at a young age, the Cursed One serves to wage an unending war against hellish beings known as the Dismis, who prey on Ataric’s races otherwise unchallenged. They act as the hand of the gods, move as the gods will, and die when the gods have expended them.

But, just as Ataric is an ever-changing, ever-growing world where those with the least amount of power come upon it and change the face of history, so too are the worlds inhabited by the gods. They gather, they decide, and – just like the mortals they oversee – they quarrel.

Yet again, the world will change and, this time, the gods will not have the luxury of simply watching.

In production: October 9th, 2009 - December 8th, 2009

Statistics: 27 Chapters, 446 Pages

Tagline: He will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his great foolishness.

Inspiration: Anathema began with the idea to have an outcast main character with strange powers capable of fighting monstrous beasts in the defense of humanity. It later expanded into a side story set in the Cataclysm universe, but far before any of the characters present in the other three stories and before any generation of the Living. In doing so, it encompassed not only this outcast character and their arduous journey through life, but also came into use as a way to shed light on why the Living came to be, using key events from the trilogy.
